”If You’re Happy and You Know It”から英語を学ぼう
こんにちは、最近親子(娘3歳)で英語を学び始めたえむじパパです。
今回はABC Songに続いて、娘が好きになった”If You’re Happy and You Know It”で英語を学ぼうと思います。
そして、歌えるようになり子供に歌ってあげたいと思います！
これは日本語で言う”幸せなら手を叩こう”という歌で、曲を聞いたら聴きなじみがあると思います。
今回は娘が好きな”しまじろうバージョン”を紹介していますが、オリジナルと若干異なるようです。
Hello! I’m emuji Papa, and I recently started learning English together with my 3-year-old daughter.
This time, after the ABC Song, we’re learning another song my daughter loves: “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”
My goal is to be able to sing it for her.
This song is just like the Japanese one, “Shiawase nara te o tatakou” (“If you’re happy, clap your hands”). When you hear this tune, I’m sure the tune will sound familiar.
Here I’m introducing my daughter’s favorite “Shimajiro version”, but it’s slightly different from the original
英語の童謡を聞き気づいたこと
童謡といえど侮れない！！ということです。
正直、童謡は子供のための歌で、大人の英語の勉強には不要だと思い、子供と英語を勉強し始めるまでまともに聞いたことはありませんでした。
しかし、実際聞いてみると、リスニングできなかったり、そもそも単語がしらなかったり、リズムに合わせて発音できないなど、気づきや学びがたくさんありました。
なので、これをきっかけにいろんな英語の童謡や子供向けコンテンツを見ながら子供レベルから基礎を固めていこうと思いました。今年36だけども。
Nursery rhymes are not as simple and easy as they look!!
Honestly, I used to think nursery rhymes were only for kids, and that adults didn’t need them for learning English. So, I never really listened to them until I started studying English with my child.
But when I finally did, I found so many surprises. Sometimes I couldn’t catch the words, sometimes I didn’t even know the vocabulary, and sometimes I couldn’t say the rhythm smoothly. There was so much to learn.
So now, I’ve decided to use this chance to go back to the basics. I’ll watch more English nursery rhymes and kids’ contents and build up my foundation from the child’s level. I’m 36 this year, but why not!

えむじパパの苦労
- “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands/ stamp your feet/shout, hooray, hooray.” をリズムに合わせて歌えるまで20回くらい練習が必要だった。
- ” If you’re happy and you know it then you surely want to show it.”では、さらにうまく発音できずに一生シュアシュア言っていました。
今回の学び（Today’s takeaway）

歌の訳では”幸せなら態度で示そうよ”の部分ですが、以上の文を分解し、意味を整理すると歌詞が理解しやすくなります。
1. “If you’re happy and you know it”
直訳：「もしあなたが幸せで、それを自分で分かっているなら」
2. ” then you surely want to show it.“
直訳：「だったら、それを示したくなるはず」
学び：surely want to で「必ずそうしたくなる」「自然と表したくなる」というニュアンスになる
